Jakob Balogh

Composer, Musician, Audio Engineer & Producer from Munich, Germany.

Synopsis

Jakob was born in Munich, Germany on November 10, 1989. Jakob—who studied at SAE Institute Munich—released two albums and worked as a producer, musician and audio engineer before starting to compose for commercial, TV and film. In 2017 he composed music for an Amazon Prime Trailer which featured Ubisoft’s “Assassin’s Creed Origins” and got nominated at the German Commercial Awards 2018 (Deutscher Werbefilmpreis) for best cinematography.

In Juli 2018 he won his first award for Best Original Score with his Soundtrack for the short film “The Crack” at the Global Film Festival in Los Angeles.

-2019-

In April he composed a score for Julien Pohl’s short film “I do me” which featured boxer Kevin Gyameschie and won a trophy for Best Original Score at the Florence Film Awards in May 2019.
In January 2019 Jakob composed a song for HFF Munich’s film “Be Inspired” (School for Film & Television). In the same month he wrote a piece for a Charité Berlin commercial.

-2018-

In winter 2018 he wrote a piece for the official cinema advertising: “SWM – Der Puls unserer Stadt”, for a public utility company based in Munich.
In August 2018 he composed a score for RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The spot was released on National Dog Day 2018.
In Juli 2018 he won an award for Best Original Score with his Soundtrack for Marko Roth’s short film “The Crack” at the Global Film Festival in Los Angeles.
In spring 2018 he produced music for two TAG Heuer commercials.

Early Years

Jakob Balogh was born in Munich, Germany, on November 10, 1989. Jakob got in touch with music very early and started taking classical piano lessons at a young age. He attended the SAE Institute in Munich and studied audio engineering from 2010-2013.

After three years of studying, Balogh was employed at Jazzclub “Unterfahrt”, where he worked as a live technician & mixing engineer with various musicians. One of his most special moments there was working with a big band conducted by Al Porcino, who is known for working with Frank Sinatra back in the days.

Before deciding to write music for moving image, Jakob toured with his band, composed instrumentals and wrote lyrics for various pop and hip hop artists in Germany.

“People often told me my music sounds more like movie scores than anything else! That’s when I realized how limited I was in expressing myself with pop & hip hop instrumentals and from that moment on I put all my energy and focus into film music and orchestrating.”

Jakob, der am SAE Institute Munich studiert hat—veröffentlichte zwei Musikalben und war unter anderem als Produzent, Musiker und Toningenieur tätig, bevor er für Werbung, Fernsehen und Film komponierte. 2017 schrieb er Musik für einen Amazon Prime Trailer, zur Veröffentlichung des Computerspielklassikers “Assassin’s Creed Origins”, welcher für den Deutschen Werbefilmpreis 2018 in der Kategorie beste Kamera nominiert wurde.

Im Juli 2018 gewann er, mit dem Kurzfilm “The Crack”, seinen ersten Award für Beste Filmmusik beim Global Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Im April komponierte er den Soundtrack zu Julien Pohl’s Kurzfilm “I do me” in welchem der Boxer Kevin Gyameschie die Hauptrolle spielte und gewann damit im Mai 2019 den Preis für die beste Filmmusik auf den Florence Film Awards.
Im Januar 2019 komponierte Jakob einen Song für die HFF München (Hochschule für Fernsehen & Film) und deren Imagefilm “Be Inspired”. Des weiteren komponierte er in diesem Monat Musik für einen Imagefilm der Charité Berlin .

Im Winter 2018 schrieb er ein Stück für den Kinospot: “SWM – Der Puls unserer Stadt”, der Stadtwerke München.
Im August 2018 komponierte er den Soundtrack für einen Werbespot von RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) der am 26. August 2018, dem “National Dog Day”, veröffentlicht wurde.
Im Juli 2018 gewann er mit seiner Komposition zu Marko Roth’s Kurzfilm “The Crack” den Award für Beste Filmmusik auf dem Global Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Im Frühjahr 2018 produzierte er Musik für zwei Werbungen der Schweizer Uhrenmarke TAG Heuer.

Frühe Jahre

Jakob Balogh wurde am 10. November 1989 in München geboren. Jakob kam sehr früh zur Musik und begann schon in jungem Alter mit klassischen Klavierstunden. Er besuchte das SAE Institute in München und studierte Audio Engineering von 2010-2013.

Nach drei Jahren Studium, war Balogh im Jazzclub “Unterfahrt” angestellt, wo er als Live Techniker & Mischer mit diversen Musikern und Bands arbeitete. Einer seiner schönsten Momente dort, war die Arbeit mit einer Big Band dirigiert von Al Porcino, den man auch für seine Zusammenarbeit mit Frank Sinatra kennt.

Bevor er sich entschied Musik für bewegte Bilder zu schreiben, tourte Jakob mit seiner Band, komponierte Instrumental-Musik und schrieb Songtexte für verschiedenste Pop & Hip Hop Künstler in Deutschland.

“Mir wurde oft gesagt meine Musik klinge mehr nach Filmmusik als nach Unterhaltungsmusik! Da begriff ich wie sehr mich Pop & Hip Hop in meiner Möglichkeit mich auszudrücken einschränkten und von diesem Augenblick an steckte ich all meine Energie und Ausdauer in Filmmusik und Orchestrierung.”
